Mick Richards – Assistant Manager Austral Downs

Mick was born and grew up on Stations around Windorah in the Channel Country of which his parents were the Managers’, and attended High School in Longreach.  Mick started his first Jackeroos’ job with S. Kidman & Co and continued with them for about 10 years on several of their Channel Country & WA Properties, along the way becoming a Headstockman.  He moved to the Barkly to work for Stanbroke Pastoral and was later transferred to the Channels as Overseer. 

In 1999 he left the Pastoral Industry for twelve months to work with Machinery. 

After this break he took up a Headstockman’s position on the Barkly with Heytsbury Pastoral Company.  He then moved to a Managers’ Position in the Cloncurry District which he held until becoming the Assistant Manager at Brunette Downs in February 2006.  Mick, his wife Kelly and their kids were then transferred to Austral Downs as the Assistant Manager in July 2008.
