Across AAco's extensive properties, AAco's commitment starts with an appreciation of the natural beauty of our 7.9 million hectares (19 million acres). Message from the AAco Board
With the Challenge of Climate Change, the world is facing uncertain times. Regardless of the causal mechanism, scientific rhetoric has become household language and the world’s economies and industries are preparing for a carbon constrained working environment.
In recognition of the corporate responsibility held by the company as one of the largest holders of agricultural land in Australia, AAco has again demonstrated itself as a leader.
This has been achieved by becoming aware of the company’s carbon position and the place this heralds within the agricultural and pastoral community. AAco has gained a strong appreciation of it’s capacities for providing mechanisms to address the various drivers of Climate Change through demonstrable “Best Management Practices” (BMP). In addition to this challenge of the 21st century, AAco continues to recognise both sides of the natural resource management equation. We have identified the need to address both conservation and sustainable management techniques as separate agendas for many years and this has now been reported and demonstrated through the many conservation projects over recent times.
The company owes much to a skilled and dedicated Rangelands team that is involved in activities ranging from determining our carbon footprint to the conservation of limited and threatened species and the monitoring of pastoral grazing systems within extensive pastoral areas. It is one thing to identify the various environmental needs in these areas – it is a far more demanding and complex task to integrate these into a dynamic and thriving business like the Australian Agricultural Company.
This year’s “Future Country” captures a few snippets of the work AAco continues to conduct in the arena of environmental and conservation management, and is a display of the commitment the company has to its corporate and social responsibilities.
